NRW: Repair, Procurement and Replication of Industrial Electronics

North Rhine-Westphalia has the densest installed base of industrial plant in Germany, and much of it is considerably older than the electronics inside it. When an assembly fails and the manufacturer stopped supplying it long ago, the length of the stoppage is not decided by whether it can be repaired but by whether it can be obtained at all. retrofit GmbH repairs industrial electronics manufacturer-independently, sources discontinued components, and rebuilds circuit boards when the original no longer exists.

Sending equipment from NRW: free both ways

Our workshop is in Baden-Württemberg. For companies in NRW the work therefore runs by post, free of charge in both directions. You send in the faulty assembly, we examine it, you receive a free quotation once the analysis is complete, and you decide from there.
For customers at a distance this has a practical advantage: the diagnosis happens on a properly equipped bench rather than inside a control cabinet under time pressure. In the case of an acute plant stoppage, call before packing anything. We can then establish whether a send-in, a tested replacement unit or an interim solution is the fastest route back into production.

Why plants in NRW are particularly affected

The installed base in North Rhine-Westphalia is dominated by steel, forming technology, chemicals and mechanical engineering. These are sectors where investments pay back over decades and machines run correspondingly long. The mechanics cope with that. The electronics do not, to the same degree.

On top of that come environmental conditions that age components faster than any data sheet assumes:

High ambient temperatures around furnaces, presses and rolling lines shorten the life of electrolytic capacitors considerably

Vibration on large forming machines puts continuous stress on connectors, solder joints and plug-in cards

Dust and abrasion clog filter mats and fans, which raises the control cabinet temperature further

Electromagnetic interference in environments with high switching loads affects communication and measurement circuits

The result is an installed base where the control and drive level is the real bottleneck. That is exactly where an industrial retrofit starts: the mechanically sound plant stays, and the level that has reached the end of its life cycle is renewed.

When the component is no longer available

A repair shop can only repair what still exists. On plants from the nineties and two thousands, that is often the real bottleneck: the assembly is discontinued, the manufacturer points to a successor system, and the successor fits neither mechanically nor into the control logic.

For this situation we have two routes that go beyond repair. The first is the procurement of discontinued components through remaining stock, the second-hand market and tested replacement units. The second is PCB replication, where we analyze the existing assembly and rebuild it to the same function when the original no longer exists anywhere.

That means the search does not end at the point where a pure repair provider has to pass. For companies with a long-lived machine park, that is precisely the difference between continued operation and replacement investment.

Frequently asked questions from NRW

How does sending equipment from North Rhine-Westphalia work?

You report the case by phone or through the contact form, we agree the shipping, and inbound and return are free of charge for you. After the analysis you receive a free quotation and only then decide whether to proceed.

We work for companies across North Rhine-Westphalia, from the Ruhr area through the Rhineland and the Bergisches Land to East Westphalia-Lippe and South Westphalia. The shipping route is the same anywhere in Germany.

Useful items are the type plate or the full part number, a short fault description, details of the machine and its operating state when the fault occurred, and photos of the installation situation. The more precise these details are, the faster the incoming diagnosis is completed.

Plant stoppage, or an assembly nobody supplies any more? Call us on +49 7032 9541231 or describe your case through the contact form. You receive a free quotation once the analysis is complete.
